At Griffe Field Primary School Mathematics is an interconnected subject in which pupils are taught to move fluently between representations of mathematical ideas-it is an essential tool for everyday life.
Mathematics teaches children how to make sense of the world around them through developing the ability to calculate, to reason and to solve problems in a fun and interactive way. It enables children to understand and appreciate relationships and pattern in both number and space in their everyday lives.
We aim to ensure all pupils:
- Become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, though varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time.
- Reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and generalisations, developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language.
- Can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of problems with increasing sophistication linking to the real world.
